Free Pizza Coupons - Not Only For Pizza
Remember when pizza coupons were for pizza? It may be hard to believe for today's kids, but once upon a time (and it wasn't that long ago), pizza parlors served pizza.
Period.
Of course, they still server pizza, but they also sell a whole lot more menu items than they did when I was a kid.
Half the time when I get pizza coupons in a door hanger, or in the mail, I open them up to discover that something like two thirds of them are for something besides pizza, or pizza plus something else. Which is fine, up to a point.
I mean it's understandable that pizza parlors would branch out to start selling sandwiches. That's pretty traditional. Whether you call them hoagies, submarines, grinders, subs, or whatever, lots of pizza places have been selling hot, baked sandwiches for years.
In the past twenty years, almost all of them have begun doing it. There are some big exceptions. Pizza Hut, at least in most locations, does not offer sandwiches. Domino's also seems to be hit and miss, by region. The same goes for Papa John's. But oddly enough, they all sell chicken wings at all their locations.
I can still remember the first time I saw a pizza place selling hot wings. It struck me pretty funny, because to me it didn't seem like the two would go together at all. I figured people would either be in the mood for pizza, or for hot wings, but not for both. I was sure that the coupon I saw was just part of a marketing test, and it wouldn't be long before the pizza parlors realized that selling hot wings was a big mistake.
Boy, was I wrong. Nowadays, it seems as if you have to sell hot wings to be an authentic pizza place. I'm sure there are still a few places that don't, but not many. Not if the pizza coupons I get are any indication.
Maybe I'm too much of a purist, but it still doesn't seem right! But as long as they keep making great pizzas, I won't complain.
