The role of Pizza Coupons in solving a crime Did you know that pizza coupons once helped break up a ring of car thieves? It's true. While this story may now qualify for Ripley's Believe It Or Not, it's still pretty interesting, and it shows how police can use even the smallest of clues in order to help them solve crimes. Most crimes are solved because it's pretty obvious from the situation who committed the crime, or because somebody talked out of desire for a reward, to exact revenge on someone, or just in order to be a good citizen. On TV, shows like Law and Order and CSI make it seem as if tiny little clues that are almost overlooked often lead to cracking a seemingly insolvable case. But you rarely see shows about crimes solved by pizza coupons. Well, it really happened. Several years ago, police in Oakland California were dealing with a gang of car thieves who were targeting Honda Accords. These cars were attractive to criminals because there was a big market for Accord parts. Dozens of Accords had been stolen, then recovered later with pizza boxes and half eaten pizza inside. Police weren't sure who was stealing all these cars, but whoever it was, they sure liked pizza. And it seemed as they only liked one kind - all the boxes came from the same pizza restaurant. Cops were baffled for weeks. Then one of them noticed something funny about the pizza boxes. He has purchased pizza from this restaurant several times himself, and whenever he did, there was always a pizza coupon attached to the outside of the box, to encourage future orders. But none of the pizza boxes in the stolen Accords had coupons attached to them. That seemed to be a pretty strong indicator that the thieves weren't buying the pizzas, which meant that someone at the store had to be on the gang of thieves. Sure enough, after staking out the store, cops nabbed one of the workers for running the car theft gang. And they were only able to solve the crime because of pizza coupons... But... personally I prefer to use my Dominos Pizza Coupons to get myself the best piping hot pizza in town! Without breaking the bank. |
